William Butler Yeats was born in Dublin on the 13th of June 1865. He spent Childhood holidays in County Sligo and had a great interest in Irish Celtic Folklore and his early works featured mysticism and the occult. In 1899, Yeats, Lady Gregory, Edward Martyn and George Moore began the Irish Literary Theatre to promote Irish and Celtic plays. In 1904 he was instrumental in founding the Abbey Theatre and remained involved with it until his death in 1939. In 1922 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature for his inspired poetry. He was at this time also appointed as a senator for the Irish Free State.
